Welcome to Iwama Ryu Aikido Sale

Discover the art of Iwama Ryu Aikido at our dojo in Sale, Victoria. Our school teaches traditional Samurai martial art systems that have been transmitted between teacher and student since the feudal era of Japan. We train in a calm and friendly environment that will improve your strength, balance, self-confidence and awareness.

"True victory is self-victory, may that day come soon".

Morihei Ueshiba Sensei

At our dojo we follow the teachings of Morihei Ueshiba Sensei, the founder of Aikido, and specifically the Iwama Ryu lineage as passed down by Morihiro Saito Sensei. The philosophy of Aikido centres around the harmonious blending of mind, body, and spirit. Through disciplined practice and dedicated training, we strive to cultivate not only effective self-defence techniques but also a deep sense of self-awareness and connection to the world around us.

“When O-Sensei explained Aikido he always said that taijutsu (body techniques) and ken (sword) and jo (staff) techniques were all the same”.

  • It does not matter what age you begin your Aikido training. Senior instructors and students provide personalized guidance and support to students of all levels.

  • We uphold the traditions of Iwama Ryu Aikido, emphasizing the importance of both taijutsu (empty-handed techniques) and bukiwaza (weapons training) to develop a well-rounded martial artist.

  • The dojo is more than just a training space; it's a community of like-minded individuals who support and encourage each other's growth. Lifelong friendships often form within the walls of our dojo and we enjoy Aikido friendship parties with good food and drink to balance our rigorous training routine.
